Once home to the world record brown trout, the White River in Arkansas has some huge fish in it. While we didn't catch any enormous fish, we did have a great time fishing it for the first time as a family. A little known fact is that I actually used to live in Arkansas and had a handful of friends who still lived there. A couple of these friends are Steve and Rebekka Dally, who I’d met through ...

I haven’t been genuinely caught off guard by an outdoor activity in a long time. When I agreed to try duck hunting in Arkansas, my expectations were limited to three things: ducks, shotguns, and the potential for a dog. Our friend Tim took us out with the only instruction being to dress warm and shoot straight. The calls, flooded fields, decoys, intensity… while I don’t typically suggest blind ...

The fly angler needs to conserve energy in any way possible if they are going to spend hours and even days casti...

The guide didn’t wet his hands before handling that stream fish, to do so burns the protective slime off them and exposes the fish to disease. I would not employ a “guide” like that. Lay off the beer and learn to be professional please.

All of this fish butchery is very interesting but I question the practicality of some of his ideas. I think we’re up against the Law of Diminishing Returns. At what point is the amount of labor spent greater than the value of the finished product? I don’t believe fish scales have enough value to waste any more labor on.

Thank you soo much for explaining the basics. I have struggled to find informative info for shed hunting. Most videos just show what folks find. I don't hunt the animals so I think I'm missing the knowledge of the animal behavior but I enjoy walking in the forest (spring/summer) and finding sheds is like finding a treasure.

Been doin it for years and ppl the last 3 or 4 years been out moving the elk around in early march. No patience anymore. And now days u dont ever find a spot where a bunch of bulls drop. They scattered out. Makes me sad to see shed hunting go the direction its goin. Im glad i got to see the old days of ahed hunting.

    • @markbosky

This is exactly why Colorado enacted a shed season starting May 1st. A-holes were literally chasing herds of bull elk around on ATVs, trying to get them to drop during their most vulnerable time of the season. Makes me really sad to see the lengths people are willing to go to. I walk around shed hunting in remote areas because I love being immersed in nature, while there are selfish peeps out there who just want to disrupt it.

@markbosky ya we have "closed areas" from Feb.-May1st. Everywhere else is fare game. And u can say they do the same stuff. The one that pisses me off are the cables about 5ft off the ground to knock them off after they send the dog to chase the elk...

I started taking my granddaughter fishing at 3 yo. Where we fished was a lake where they dump 10” catchable rainbow and then 3-5 yo spawners. She learned very early to grab the fly rod securely since the spawners would hammer it. I never cared whether I caught one but to see her smile was priceless.
